Cocktail Inspirations (Weekend Wanderings at the Huntley Hotel in Santa Monica Beach)

imagesIt’s hump day, Wednesday, and I feel like we all can use a little pick-me-up mid week. I thought I would share a few inspirations from my short stay at the Huntley Hotel, in Santa Monica, last weekend. Simplicity is my mantra with food and lifestyle. I am a visual person…I can be drawn to a color that pops, a play on texture, sunlight shining on a flower, or a simple combination of ingredients. All it takes is having that one bite of something delicious, having that one sip of a wonderful drink, or seeing that one image, to draw me in and inspire me to create my own version. IMG_1192I love the synergy in this hotel lobby; how the sleek leather sofa beds, pair with the white fur pillows and shaggy rug. It creates an undone and casual feel, in this beachside hotel. The controlled palette of white and neutrals casts a cozy vibe, and calms and soothes the soul.

The Penthouse Bar is a beautiful place to watch the sunset over the ocean in the evening.

Here are some cocktail ideas from the Penthouse at the Huntley Hotel…

G R A P E F R U I T . O N . T H E . R O C K S

-1.5oz of a grapefruit flavored vodka, I use Belevedere Grapefruit
-.5oz St. Germain liqueur
-1oz of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice
-.5 oz of ginger infused simple syrup- (simply pour 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar in a sauce pan with a piece of ginger, let the mixture come to a boil & stir until the sugar dissolves. Chill before using.)

Shake and Serve over ice, with a garnish of grapefruit.

W A T E R M E L O N . C O O L E R

-1.5oz Cucumber infused Vodka–(Cut up one cucumber and place in 1 liter of good vodka-I use Grey Goose-let it infuse for a day, strain cucumber and enjoy.)
-1oz of Fresh pressed Watermelon juice
-.5oz lime juice
-.5oz simple syrup
– Handful of Mint

Muddle mint at the bottom of a martini shaker. Add the rest of the ingredients, shake, strain the mint, and serve over ice. Garnish with a cucumber and a few sprigs of mint.

E L E G A N T . T H Y M E . M A R T I N I

-1.5oz Gin
-1oz pressed cucumber juice
-1oz white cranberry juice
-.5oz fresh lime juice
-Few sprigs of thyme

Muddle thyme at the bottom of a martini shaker. Add the rest of the ingredients and shake, strain the thyme, and serve in a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a sprig of fresh thyme.
